Do You Envy Yourself?

Imagine this: You’re scrolling social media and you see a picture of a person smiling. It’s one of the largest and most alluring smiles you have seen in a long time. The person seems so happy. They must have a perfect life; the setting appears scenic and dreamy. The background is of beautiful trees with vibrant colors, and you think to yourself, I wish that were me. Guess what? It is. It’s a picture of you. How is this possible? You don’t recognize the person reflecting back at you from the computer screen. Who is this being?

Getting in the Routine of Getting Out of Routines

I once knew someone who very much believed themselves to be in the mindset of never wanting to be stagnant; always seeking something “different” or exciting.

This same person, however, refused to eat at a restaurant that didn’t have Google reviews, alternated the same meals every week, took the same routes to the same places for “convenience,” and got weirded out by the idea of switching “their” side of the bed with a partner unless there was a justified reason. What is it that makes us feel good about saying we want the unconventional but staying committed to ordinary routines?

Let’s examine how we can fall out of the slump of “normal” without causing problematic disruptions.

Mocking Facial Expressions: It Might Just Change Your Day!

I recently came across a really cool technique while I was feeling down. I’d learned from this approach that it surprisingly worked, and quickly! It seemed a bit goofy at the moment, but after trying it, I found it extremely therapeutic. The nice part is it can be done from anywhere and does not require much. Try it out; only a few minutes of your time is needed!

Why Is Google My New Doctor?

The topic of healthcare is a hot discussion at the moment. Almost exclusively, not for good reasons. A trip to the doctor can be saved by a quick Google search and telling a physician what you think might be wrong based on what you discovered. The diagnosis is pretty accurate, and that is troubling. Does this sound familiar?

Consciousness First-time Visit: Are We All Optical Illusions? Part I

Have you ever read something so thought-provoking that it caused you to question everything? I’m sure the answer is yes, but what’s more is that upon this reflection, you have no answers. There are tools and resources that point us in the right direction, but every person will interpret the information differently. These questions are nothing new, but there will be a contrary answer for each individual mind. Here are the questions that came up during a reflection of mine, and that I plan to answer in a future post.

Not All Wounds Are Visible

I read this phrase today, “not all wounds are visible,” and it made me think of love. Love is a constant wound that never heals. It just continues to reopen; sometimes slowly, at other times quickly. It’s sometimes painful and at other times we barely feel it. It’s self-inflicted; yet, given by those whom we thought were closest. Why can’t we seem to cure trauma?

The Comfort Book by Matt Haig: Comforting or Nonsense?

Matt Haig is well recognized for his bestseller The Midnight Library (2020) which includes the serious topic of contemplating suicide. He’s written other books that touch on this very subject, as he has experienced the negative thoughts of self-destruction himself. The Comfort Book asserts to provide an authentic perspective that is motivating and genuine for those in similar positions, but how real are these words of solace for those with dark intentions?

Emotional Cheating: The Non-verbal Breakup

We’ve all been in, or know someone who has been, in a relationship with a partner who stands by protecting the platonic relationship because there is no physical attraction or flirtiness allegedly taking place. However, what about the emotional connection with someone else that steals away from your own relationship? How much of that emotional cheating is slowly breaking up with your partner? Let’s evaluate if it’s worth it for either partner.

The Midnight Library: What Regrets Would You Revisit if Given the Chance?

Spoilers ahead! The Midnight Library is a book about what choices we would relive if we were given the chance. The underlying topic is suicide and the power of the mind during difficult times. If someone went through with such an act and had a chance to slightly alter past decisions, what would those be?
